The evening is going well until Emma finds the host's brother in the study unconscious. Initially, it's believed that he had a little too much to drink and tripped, but it's soon clear that there's more going on here. The wall safe is open, and three million dollars of jewelry is missing.
Emma and Grace try to solve the mystery, much to the chagrin of the local detective.
My Thoughts: This is a unique cozy mystery in that the storyline revolves around trying to solve a robbery rather than a murder. I really enjoyed this aspect of the plot.
Emma and Grace are charming characters that seem down-to-earth and easy to relate to. These women didn't do anything too insane in trying to solve the mystery, which I really like. It drives me a little nuts when the characters are too impulsive.
The description of the book I read before agreeing to review it lead me to believe that there would be more romance in the storyline than there was. However, there is a budding romance in the book, and I'm excited to see where it goes as the series unfolds.
The only thing missing from this book is........a cat, of course! I think most stories are made better with a cat or two, but of course, I'm a little biased!
I really enjoyed this book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes cozy mysteries. I'm looking forward to reading future books in the series!
About the Author: Elizabeth McKenna has loved books from the time she was a child, but she'd never read a romance novel until her sister gave her the most recent Nora Roberts best-seller one Christmas. McKenna was hooked. She combined her love of romance, history, and happy endings to write her historical romance novels Cera's Place and Venice in the Moonlight. McKenna's contemporary romance novel, First Crush, Last Love, is loosely based on the author's life; she eventually married her first crush. The Great Jewel Robbery is McKenna's first cozy mystery.
McKenna lives in Wisconsin with her understanding husband, two beautiful daughters, and a sassy Labrador. When she's not writing, working, or being a mom, she's sleeping.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a good book!
ReplyDeleteEmma and Grace sound nice although we agree they need a cat in the book. Perhaps one day soon Emma or Grace will rescue a cat or a dog.
