The Vet Said.....

I called the vet today to talk about the concerns I have about Carmine.

The vet techs (two of them got involved - everyone loves little Carmine!) suggested I heat his food up a bit before I give it to him.  They said to put a little chicken broth or some chicken or turkey baby food (with no veggies) on his food.  They claim kitties really like baby foods.  I never would have guessed that!

I got a jar of turkey and a jar of chicken baby food without vegetables while I was at Walgreen's tonight.  When I got home, I wanted to see how much he would eat on his own.  He's eaten about 2/3 of his dinner.  I will give him the food again shortly to see if he wants any more.  If not, I'll try to put some baby food in the next dinner for him.

The vet techs said his Amoxicillin may have made his tummy upset.  He is off of that now (he's done!).  They also said his gums might still be hurting.  And....he didn't have one extraction...apparently he had TWO and I was misinformed.  I have noticed he stopped eating out of the side of his mouth, so at least that's progress.

If he isn't eating better by Tuesday, they said to call back and we'll have to decide where to go from there.....possibly bring him in for another visit.  My poor little baby!

Hopefully we can entice him to eat some more with the suggestions I received and he won't have to go back so soon.

  1. Hope he starts eating well again. Tooth extraction is so painful for hoomans.. must feel terrible to the kitties..

I think the gums should heal over time and it should get better. Paws crossed for the best :)

  2. Poor Carmine. I know how it feels to have your cat not eating or not in the best shape. Me and Admiral went through that before but Carmine will be alright I feel sure. Poor guy just trying to get used to the state of his mouth, maybe.

  6. We once had a cat that had tummy troubles (nausea) after an antibiotic. Took some time for things to settle. It's always hard seeing them in discomfort.

  7. It sounds like Carmine might be getting back to normal and that is terrific. The antibiotics can make them not want to eat. The Baby food is a great idea. Hope Carmine continues to improve. Take care.

  9. OH poor darling! When Au was poorly, I bought one pack of each pet food and he taste tested all of them. He plumped for a cheap, sweet cat food. I think it was the one he could small best. We're purring for Carmine - and you!
