Purrs of Wisdom: Enlightenment, Feline Style Review and Giveaway

I love Ingrid King's blog, The Conscious Cat, and I've had the pleasure of reviewing her books, Buckley's Story: Lessons from a Feline Master Teacher and Tortitude: The BIG Book of Cats with a BIG Attitude.  Ingrid King writes beautifully, and I really love the books I've had a chance to read so far.  So when Purrs of Wisdom: Enlightenment, Feline Style showed up at my door, I was ecstatic!

Yesterday was Jewel's birthday.  She would have been 18 years old.  She was a wise cat.  Even in her short time with me, she taught me some important lessons about life and love.

One of the things she helped me learn is how to love people even when you don't like their actions.  Jewel was a very loyal cat, and she loved with her whole heart.  She also adapted to new situations very well and always accepted what was.  I know she didn't really enjoy the company of other cats, but she adapted to living with Carmine Milita very well.  She never fought with them.  She usually allowed Carmine to check on her multiple times a day without so much as a hiss.

Cats have so much to teach us.

In her new book, Purrs of Wisdom: Enlightenment, Feline Style, Ingrid King shares some of the lessons she's learned from her cats with us.  The book is a compilation of essays that will inspire you to live a more conscious life.

I found many of the essays in this book inspiring.  The ones that inspired me the most have to do with taking care of yourself.  In her essay entitled, "Taking Time for Yourself," King says, "We all have busy lives, and there are days when it feels like we'll never get everything done.  For most people, the first thing to fall by the wayside during busy times is taking time for yourself.  I've never met a cat who has said, 'I'm too busy to take a moment to stretch in the sun.'  Why can't we be more cat-like when it comes to taking care of ourselves?"

Cats are great models for self-care.  They nap in sun puddles, seek attention when they want to be loved, and are fastidious when it comes to their hygiene.

I've struggled with self-care for decades.  My cats continue to teach me how to take care of myself.  I've learned, for instance, to allow myself to sleep when I need to without feeling so guilty about it (I need a lot of sleep due to excessive fatigue).  My cats inspire me to take better care of myself.

Other essays in Purrs of Wisdom: Enlightenment, Feline Style discuss decluttering your life, meditating with your cats, how to be content, gratitude, the waste of worry, reducing the drama in your life, and stepping outside your comfort zone.

The essays in this book will inspire you to live a happier, healthier, more conscious life.  The photos included with each essay are beautiful as well.

Cat lovers everywhere will appreciate this book!

  4. Meowmy and Ingrid King share first names...but well, there are too many unread books in our den right how, so even though we would love a book from a namesake author, we will let others have a chance instead...

Have fun and good luck to the entrants.
