Fickle Humans

Tylan staring at Carmine's SureFeed.
Hey, you! Open up and let me have those kibbles!

Hi everyone, it's me, Tylan!

Have you ever noticed how fickle humans are? They can't seem to make up their minds, and it's quite confusing sometimes!

When the Mom lady brought me home, she noticed how much I loved food right away. I would gobble all of my food down and then shove Carmine out of the way and steal his!

Carmine is a grazer. He likes to eat some of his food and save some for later. I don't know why you would save any for later when you can eat it NOW. He's a strange mancat sometimes.

When Carmine wanted a few bites of his kibble, the Mom lady would put some down for him, but then I would come and eat it all, leaving none for Carmine.

She tried to put Carmine's kibble on top of the counter, but I'd just get up there and steal it all when she wasn't watching.

She could feed us our canned food meals in different rooms so Carmine could eat as much as he wanted, but she didn't know how on earth Carmine was going to be able to get any kibble, when, every time she put some out, I came along and ate it all.

Carmine wasn't getting enough to eat. The Mom lady wasn't happy about that.

So she got one of these contraptions she calls a SureFeed. It is a microchip feeder,. The Mom lady programmed Carmine's chip into the feeder but not mine. So, Carmine's SureFeed only opens it's lid for him. Isn't that mean?!

For over a year, Carmine's SureFeed refused to let me in, no matter how much I stared at it, no matter how much I yelled at it, and no matter how many evil looks I gave it.

I finally stopped trying to get it to respond. It clearly hates me.

Life was going along fine. Carmine ate his kibble slowly throughout the day the way he likes, and I gobbled up my kibble in one sitting when the Mom lady put it down every night for me.

But then........

Carmine became a sugar kitty, and the Mom lady switched us both to TikiCat low-carb chicken kibble. It is pretty darn tasty! It has helped me maintain my weight instead of gaining more, which the Mom lady and the vet guy are happy about.

But, the vet guy said he thought Carmine might be allergic to his noms. So, the Mom lady got him new kibble to eat - Natural Balance Limited Ingredient High Protein Chicken.

Since the TikiCat has been good for me, the Mom lady wants me to continue to eat that. But now she has to keep Carmine out of my kibble.

So.......she got another one of those SureFeed contraptions a few weeks ago.

SureFeed
SureFeed in training mode.

She put my contraption in the kitchen where she normally puts my kibble. She tried to show it to me, but I wanted nothing to do with it. In fact, when she tried to show it to me, I would initially run away!

She had to bring the bowl outside the contraption and set it on the little place where the mat goes in order to get me to eat from it. Once I started to eat, she'd take the bowl and slowly lure me under the sensor. I would keep eating the kibble, but if I came back later to eat any remaining bits I'd left, I would just sit and stare at the contraption. I would not stick my head under the sensor, even when the lid was fully open.

The Mom lady keeps telling me that it is okay, this is my SureFeed. For a year, she didn't want me to eat out of the contraption, and now she wants me to eat out of there. Why can't she make up her mind?!

Tylan
Well, okay, I guess I'll give it a try.

It is so confusing.

Anyway, the Mom lady has put the contraption into training mode. The lid barely shuts when my head is not under the sensor. Last night, the Mom lady was so excited because I went and ate out of the SureFeed in training mode without her having to coax me under the sensor. She made a fuss and told me what a good boy I am.

She thinks it will take a while to train me to use my SureFeed. She is not going to rush me through the training mode.

I think she would be confused, too, if she were me.

  3. You two are lucky to have your very own Surefeeds! That is very cool. I hope that you learn to like your Surefeed soon, Tylan. It is important that you get all of the nutrition that you need.
