Cooper: A Rescue Dog's Tale created by Timothy T. Civick and James S. Martinez is a coloring and activity book that helps educate people on how they can help in the rescue of pets. The book is based on a true story.
Gina Dial, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for John Paul Pet, wanted to rescue Cooper, a one-and-a-half year-old Australian Shepherd. She utilized her social media network in order to help rescue Cooper. Once she realized how social media can aid pets in need, she inspired John Paul Pet to create the Passionate Animal Lovers (PALS) program. The PALS program encourages people to join their state's respective Facebook page and share lost and found pets as well as pets needing forever homes. You can find your stat'e PALS Facebook page HERE. For every person who joins the PALS Facebook group, John Paul Pet will donate $1 to the Morris Animal Foundation, up to $5,000.

Help Homeless Pets: Pledges for Pets Telethon
The Denver Dumb Friends League will be holding its annual fundraiser, "Pledges for Pets Telethon," on Sunday January 25, 2015 from noon to 5pm (MST). During the telethon, viewers will have the opportunity to see adoptable animals, hear heartwarming adoption stories, and see what's going on at the biggest animal shelter in the Rocky Mountain Region. Viewers can watch the telethon on FOX31/KDVR. Viewers who wish to donate to Dumb Friends League will have the opportunity to do so by phone, text message, or online during the live telethon.
This year, Dumb Friends League hopes to raise more than $300,000. According to Dumb Friends League's website, the organization spends more than $25,000 each day to provide companion animal services, including veterinary services in its shelters and reduced-cost spay/neuter surgeries in its two mobile clinics. Bob Rohde, President and CEO of the organization stated, "Viewers will see the many ways the Dumb Friends League helps pets, horses, and people in our community. They'll also see how their donations can make a life changing difference for thousands of homeless animals that come into our care every year."

The Dumb Friends League is a nonprofit organization that provides services to pet owners and homeless animals. Last year, 17,656 pets and horses were returned to their owners, adopted to new forever homes, or transferred to partner facilities by the organization. In addition to helping pets find new forever homes, Dumb Friends League provides rehabilitation to formerly abused and neglected horses, behavior training for pets, animal cruelty investigations, humane education, and reduced-cost spay/neuter surgeries, subsidized by donors, in underserved communities.
Hill's Science Diet is sponsoring this year's Pledges for Pets Telethon, which will air on FOX31/KDVR. Murphy Huston and Denise Plante from KOSI 101 will aid in emceeing the fundraiser.
Animal lovers who are not able to watch the telethon may give a donation by texting the word "PET" to 41444, giving online, or calling 303-751-5772.
If you would like more information on the Pledges for Pets Telethon, you can visit the Dumb Friends League's website or call the shelter at 303-751-5772.

MaxFund Black Tie Fundraiser
I received an e-mail about this event and wanted to pass along the details as I know MaxFund does some great work. I hope some of you can go to it or will pass the information along to any family or friends who might live in the area.
MaxFund is a no-kill non-profit animal shelter. The organization takes in injured, abandoned, and abused animals, nurtures and cares for them, and finds them good forever homes. Something that impresses me is that they care for and find good forever homes for special needs animals as well. As an owner of a special needs cat, I can appreciate the extra care special needs babies need (and they are *totally* worth it, by the way!). They also provide low-cost veterinary services to pet owners, such as spay and neuter, dental, vaccinations, and x-rays.
On October 13, 2012, MaxFund will hold its largest annual fundraiser, "Puttin' on the Max." This year's theme is "Tails of the Night," which was inspired by all of the great stories the animals at MaxFund Animal Adoption Center have.
The fundraiser is a black tie event, featuring Jim Benemann as emcee for the night. Jim Benemann is an anchor with Channel 4. There will be a live and a silent auction with items to bid on, entertainment provided by the Cleo Parker Robinson Dancers, and a pet parade. The event will begin at 5:30pm with a cocktail hour and silent auction.
This year, the event will also include a raffle. You do *not* have to be present at the event to win the raffle prizes. First prize is a two night stay at Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. Second prize is a two night stay at Reserve Hotel in Central City. Third prize is a one-night stay at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, including breakfast.
Tickets for "Puttin' on the Max" are $100 each, $175 for a couple, or $900 for a table of 10 people. You can purchase tickets at MaxFund Animal Adoption Center, located at 720 W. 10th. Ave., Denver, CO 80204. Alternatively, you an purchase tickets from this website.
If you would like more information on this event, you may visit the MaxFund website or contact Shannon Van Dzura who is MaxFund's Events Director by e-mail at shannon@maxfund.org.

Spring the Seniors at Cat Care Society!
I wanted to inform all of you about an event that's taking place at one of my very favorite cat shelters this Spring. The event, called Spring the Seniors, allows you to name your adoption fee on any senior cat (10 years or older) at Cat Care Society until June 20.
I've been to Cat Care Society many, many times over the past several years. I really enjoy visiting the kitties, and most of the staff even knows me by name. :) I admire the way in which the shelter is run because unlike many other shelters, Cat Care Society rarely euthanizes cats. The shelter only humanely euthanizes a cat if he or she is very ill and is suffering a great deal or tests positive for FeLv or FIV.
Thus, any cat accepted into the shelter stays there until he or she finds a good forever home. There are no expiration dates on these precious babies! I also love that the kitties stay in rooms, rather than cages. Each room holds approximately 6 kitties. The kitties are free to roam around in their rooms as much as they want - they have lots of blankets, beds, and shelves they can hang out on. They also have plenty of toys and love from the staff and visitors.
During the Spring the Seniors event, Cat Care Society is allowing individuals to name the adoption fee for any senior cat 10 years old or older. The even will run until June 20.
As I'm sure many of you already know, seniors have a harder time getting adopted than kittens do. However, there are benefits to adopting an older cat. First, a senior cat's personality is unlikely to change as it has already developed whereas a kitten's personality may change as he or she gets older. Senior cats tend to be lap cats, making great companions for anyone who enjoys having a warm feline in his or her lap.
Whereas kitten are very rambunctious and energetic, seniors are more relaxed. Thus, senior cats are especially good companions for people who do not have the energy to chase kittens around the house all day.
Some people may not adopt seniors because they believe a senior cat requires more veterinary care than a kitten or young adult cat. To help with veterinary expenses, Cat Care Society has the Perpet-U-Care program, which covers up to $250 in vet care per year for seniors adopted from their shelter. Additionally, every cat adopted from Cat Care comes spayed or neutered, comes with a collar, microchip, and tags, and is up-to-date on vaccinations.
I encourage you to visit Cat Care Society if you live in the Denver, Colorado area. You can also visit their website here. Every cat deserves a great, loving forever home. :)
