Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday: Book Review and Giveaway

Alycat and the Cattywompus Wednesday

About the Book: Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday by Alysson Foti Bourque is part of the Alycat series of books for children.

Alycat wakes up to seafood gumbo in her bowl for breakfast. Even though her house is the first stop for the school bus, the bus is already full when she and her brother, Bugsy, board. Alycat's whole day is turned around. What is going on?

Follow Alycat as she has a very "cattywampus" Wednesday. Young readers will learn that a little help from friends and a positive attitude can help you make the best of every day.

This book is intended for children ages 3-7 years old.

My Toughts: First, let me say that this is a really adorable book! All of the characters in this story are cats, and I love that! The illustrations are cute and colorful.

The story of Alycat's cattywampus Wednesday is sweet. Initially, Alycat is quite confused that everything in her day is backwards, but by the end of the day, she is taking it in stride and even plays along as if nothing is amiss. I believe this shows kids that having a positive attitude can help you through tough and confusing times.

This book is intended for children ages 3-7 years old. Younger children will most definitely need their parents to read them this book. Older children may be able to read this book with some help from their parents with a few of the bigger words, like cattywampus. I believe young readers will really enjoy this story and the illustrations that accompany it.

The last page of the book has the definitions for "cattywampus" and some tips on how kids can deal with their own cattywampus days. I think this is great! Sometimes we all just need a reminder on how we can cope with tough times in a constructive manner.

Book Review: Sunny and the Cats

Sunny and the Cats

About the Book: Sunny and the Cats is a children's book by Victoria Otto. Everyone in Meow Village and Woof Village live peacefully and happily as long as they abide by one rule - dogs were not allowed in Meow Village, and any cat who set foot in Woof Village would be chased up a tree. One special puppy, Sunny, wants to be friends with the cats, though, so he breaks the rule to see if the cats want to play with him. What happens when Sunny goes to Meow Village?

My Thoughts: Let me just say that this book is adorable! The story is very sweet, and I feel it has value for today's children.

When Sunny wants to be friends with the cats, his dog friends discourage him. But Sunny goes to Meow Village anyway. Sunny ends up being a great help to a kitty in trouble there, but the cats still aren't friendly to him afterward. It isn't until Sunny has returned to Woof Village that the cats come over to thank him for his help. The cats and dogs end up becoming friends in the end.

This book teaches children to be kind to others, no matter how different they may be from them. I believe this is an excellent lesson for kids (and adults!) in today's world to learn.

This book is intended for children ages 3-7 years old. Younger childrein won't be able to read this book on their own, but as they get older, this book is an excellent one for them to read independently. The language is kid-friendly; there are no big or complicated words in this story. The book is nicely illustrated, too.

Purrball Meets Burrball in Brazil Review

Purrball Meets Burrball in Brazil by Anne Zoet is a sweet children's book I recently had the opportunity to read.

Purrball is a gray cat who has a loving family.  He and his family are moving to Brazil.  The family makes it to Brazil fine, but when an earthquake strikes, Purrball gets scared and runs away.  He runs into a sloth with three toes in a tree.  Purrball decides to name the sloth Burrball because the sloth reminds him of the burs he gets stuck in his fur.

Burrball helps Purrball use the cellphone and charger he had wrapped around his leg when he ran away to contact his family so they can find him.  They run into some challenges, but ultimately Purrball and his family are reunited.

The book is really cute.  It teaches children about trust and friendship.  The incorporation of technology into the storyline is really genius and makes the book modern.  I think any child who loves animals will really enjoy this book.

Author Interview with Anne Zoet

What inspired you to write this book?
Anne Zoet: The story hit me on a day that I took out for myself away from my high tech work. I was having a massage, which is when I zone-out and don’t think about anything. Oddly, this time, I started creating the Purrball and Burrball storyline the more and more I unwound. I was so relaxed that the whole thing unfolded start to finish.
