Wordy Wednesday

Today we are going to let the mom post here because hers thinks some humans can commiserate with hers.  And some purrs would be nice if you wants to give hers some, too.

The mom here.  On Monday, I went to my dentist, thinking I had a cavity because one of my teeth has been hurting me for a couple of months.  Was I ever surprised when the dentist said I have a fractured tooth!!  The cost they estimated for all of my work (which I get done under IV sedation) was insane -- even after the part my insurance covers.

What we finally decided on is to wait until December so that I can save (and work for) more funds for my dental care.  We will put a temporary crown on my tooth, and then next year, I will get a permanent crown for it.

I don't understand why insurance pays so very little for dental care.  It's just as important as healthcare if you ask me as dental health can affect your physical health.

Carmine: The mom says the next time mes goes in for dental surgery, hers is going to come too so the v-e-t can fix hers teeths.  MOL!  Hers is so funny!!

  2. The woman here says that dental work in the UK is just as expensive and there's nothing worse then having a hurty mouth.

  3. gettin the tooths fixed up is just as important ass the rest of the body. crazy, silly they split it up, vision being another split. just another way for greedy people to make money.

Theo fractured his canine tooth way back when. he didn't get a crown for his efforts, just an extraction and now a funky grin!

purrs to you, no more hurts.

  5. Mom's dentist is not covered by her dental plan but she likes him better than the big dental place that is covered. Turns out, the big place charged lots of $$ for stuff that wasn't needed (including x-rays every year). The new dentist says that dental insurance is often a big scam that causes the big places to charge mega $$.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes for our Mom!

  6. It is pretty ridiculous what a crown costs now. Our insurance only gives us $24 each toward cleaning twice each year. Talk about crummy. And you are right, our dental health can wreak havoc on our entire body if we are not careful. And isn't is always close to the holidays when this stuff happens. Good luck with getting everything taken care of. Tell the kitties that they must stay in good health! 7. My human does not have dental insurance, and fortunately her teeth have been in pretty good shape, so she usually only has to pay for the twice-yearly checkups. Actually, our kitty dentals cost more than her human check-ups!

  8. It's amazing how expensive dental work can be. My Stray-Stray needs to have a tooth removed still, which will cost $500 to $600- all for one tooth! It's crazy!

  9. We are so sorry to hear about your fractured tooth. We agree -- dental insurance really does NOT cover much, it seems. :(

  10. ARGH, I have had so much dental work (and I take care of my teeth) and paying for it stinks. I had to have a tooth extracted (too much of a cavity to save) and I got a dental implant. It is great but was expensive.

  11. Ouch! My mummy can commiserate as she has a temporary crown and is getting the permanent one on Friday! It has been an expensive time :( Good luck to your mom. Sending lots of purrs for her! xx

  12. I can relate to this a little bit. When I was pregnant, I had a severely painful tooth. Worst pain of my life I dealt with for about 3 months. The first oral surgeon wouldn't pull it because I was pregnant. I went to another surgeon and he pulled 3 teeth - the bad one and 2 bad wisdom teeth next to it. I didn't have IV sedation, just lidocaine. I didn't feel a thing, although I was kind of nervous. I wonder if it would be cheaper without sedation? Anyways, I'm glad that's over with but I still need more work done.

  14. I feel your pain! I had dental work done a few years ago that after insurance I still had a bill of over $2000!!! My dentist did a 2-year payment plan with me, does your dentist have that?

  15. I hear you!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is just why I brush my teeth 15 minutes everyday b/c of the cost to fix somethng. Of course you couldn't have helped a tooth that got cracked!!!
    So sorry!!

  16. We can commiserate all too well! Someone's making a lot of money off our teeth and when we figure out exactly whom, we're sending in our Maxx to bite them! Have a good weekend!

  19. I know exactly how you feel... dental care is just as important as healthcare. The two should go hand in hand. Even when I've had what's considered really good dental coverage, it doesn't even make a dent in something like a crown. Crowns are crazy-expensive.

Good luck with it...I hope your temporary crown will provide some relief.

  21. Mum sympathises with you regarding dental work. Our last dentist charged her £100 for a check up - she was in the chair for no more than 3 minutes and needed no fillings or anything doing. She hasn't been since.

  22. Oh poor mum! We totally sympathise! Dental work expenses both for humans and furbabies are astronomical! :-(

We hope mum is in not too much pain!

    All the best, take care

  23. Awww, your poor mum! A fractured tooth is definitely not easy to deal with, so she's pretty strong considering she wrote this in October and waited until December. I hope that enough funds were gathered so she could get the best dental work possible on her tooth!
