Thankful Thursday

Figgy with one of Mom Ellen's handmade toys.Hi everyone!

This handsome orange guy is my friend Steve's cat, Figgy. He is a very sweet mancat.

He's also a little on the "fluffy" side. So we try to encourage him to play for some exercise.

A while back, I went to visit Steve and Figgy, and we brought along one of Mom Ellen's from 15andmeowing toys. Figgy went wild for it! He batted it around and even fetched it for me several times like he did when he was a kitten!

Tylan also absolutely loves the toys Mom Ellen has sent us over the years. He'll find one of her toys and is overjoyed to play with it. He is truly one of the most playful cats I've ever known.

After we discovered how much Figgy loved the toys, too, I contacted Mom Ellen and asked her if she would please make us some more. She said she would - and she did!

Figgy with one of Mom Ellen's handmade toys.
Our thankful for today is Mom Ellen for being so kind and making Tylan and Figgy somme more knitted toys! Both boys are really enjoying the toys she sent us! In fact, I uncovered one of the knitted balls she sent us that Tylan had apparently hidden, and he was having the best time with it the other day. He loves to bat it around the kitchen. I won't be surprised if it winds up under the oven like all his favorite toys tend to do!

Thank you, Mom Ellen, for being such a sweet friend!

Thankful Thursday

Milita

Hi everyone, we are joining Brian's Thankful Thursday blog hop today.

It has already been in the 80s several days this month, and both Lita and I are very heat sensitive/intolerant.  The heat makes me feel quite nauseous and dizzy, and I get overheated very easily.  Lita looks like she's just miserable when it's hot, and I feel terrible for her and try my best to keep her cool.

Last year, management warned everyone in the building that we must have a brace of some sort in order to use our window air conditioning units.  Most of us didn't have one, including me.  So, this year I had to get one before I put in the air conditioner.  The first one I got was missing instructions and parts, so I had to take it back and get a different one.

Friendly Fill-ins

We are still alive.  The Mom has just been concentrating on other writing assignments.  We apologize for not being able to visit all of our wonderful friends much lately.

Today we are participating in Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by McGuffy's Reader and 15andmeowing.

Here are this week's statements.

Friendly Fill-In Statements: Week 8

My answers are in bold.

1. I never thought I would miss  school, but I do.

2. Every 4th of July
I enjoy watching fireworks.

3. If I knew how to cook well, I would make delicious meals and share them with friends.

4. I have trouble waking up in the morning!

We plan to participate in Caturday Art tomorrow, and we'll do our best to get around and visit everyone more regularly again.

Opt to Adopt: Cats Still Seeking Forever Homes

OPT TO ADOPT
CATS STILL LOOKING FOR HOMES

Over the past three years, I've been featuring (mostly) local cats available for adoption.  I'm happy to say that some of them have found wonderful homes since being featured here!  Others, however, are still seeking a loving human companion and a forever home.  Please click each name to learn more about each cat.  I wrote a small description of each cat I've actually had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with.  Any of these fur babies would make wonderful companions.

Beautiful Ladycat Mel Seeks a Sunny Window and Love

Mel

MaxFund
Denver, CO

Mel is a beautiful orange Domestic Shorthair ladycat seeking her forever home.  She was brought to the shelter with another kitty who were abandoned in a warehouse.  They were brought to MaxFund by the people who were just about to demolish the warehouse!  Thank God they found the kitties in time.

Her profile says that she is a sweet cat who loves to be pet.  She will even chirp to get your attention!  She loves sun puddles, too.  Her profile states that she can be a little crabby when changes are made to her environment, so she'd prefer a quieter home.

Photo from Mel's Adopt a Pet profile page.

Mel is an adult cat (her profile doesn't state her age), is current on her vaccinations, and has already been spayed.  To meet this beautiful ladycat, please visit MaxFund located at 720 W. 10th Avenue in Denver, CO.  You can also get more information about Mel by calling the shelter at 303-595-4917.

Need a Chat Buddy?: Opt to Adopt Mango

Mango

Cat Care Society
Lakewood, CO

You all know how much I love my Mango, and if circumstances were different, there is no doubt that she'd be living here with us.  This sweet baby deserves a wonderful home.

Mango is a gorgeous dilute tortie with medium fur.  Her fur tends to mat, so she gets shaved about twice a year - and she looks soooo adorable with a lion cut!

Mango loves to talk!  Just ask her, and she'll tell you all about her day and what she's been doing.  She'll meow a greeting when you come into the room to visit her, too.  If Mango really likes you, she'll give you kisses!

Luna Seeks Her Forever Home: Opt to Adopt

Luna

MaxFund
Denver, CO

Luna is a very affectionate and pretty ladycat seeking a forever home.  She loves to hide - under blankets, in bags, etc., but her profile says that once you locate her, she'll curl up in your lap and give you lots of love.  She also enjoys chasing toys and lasers around.

Luna came to the shelter when her owner had to move back in with her parents.  The owner's mother is allergic to cats.  Luna is nine years young and still has plenty of love to give a new human companion.  She is a little nervous around new kitties, but she can make friends with them after a while.  The shelter doesn't know if she gets along with children or dogs.

Luna is up-to-date on her vaccinations and is already spayed.  If you'd like to meet this sweet ladycat, please visit her at MaxFund located at 720 W. 10th Avenue in Denver, CO.  You can also call the shelter at 303-595-4917 for more information about her.

Pouncer Wants to Join Your Family: Opt to Adopt

Pouncer

MaxFund
Denver, CO

Isn't Pouncer a handsome orange mancat?  He's a domestic shorthair who made his way to MaxFund with his brother when his family moved out of state.

Pouncer is a sweet mancat, but he is shy and will need time to adjust to a new home.  His profile says he likes to hide under his bed and pretend that nobody can see him.  He would prefer a quieter home where he can come out of his shell when he's ready.

Pouncer is 14 years old and still has a lot of love to give to a new human companion!  He is already neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.

You can visit with Pouncer at MaxFund, located at 720 W. 10th Avenue in Denver, CO.  You can also learn more about Pouncer by calling the shelter at 303-595-4917.

Handsome Black Panther Phoenix Seeks His Forever Home

Phoenix

MaxFund
Denver, CO

Phoenix is a handsome black mancat who would love to find a forever home to call his own.  Phoenix made his way to the shelter when his owner was no longer able to take care of him.

Phoenix loves to snuggle.  In fact, he is happiest when he can curl up in a lap and be pet.  His adoption description says he has very soft fur.  Phoenix can be a little shy when he initially meets strangers, but he warms up to people quickly.

He has been diagnosed with FIV, but please don't let that stop you from getting to know this handsome boy.  FIV cannot be transmitted to dogs or humans and is only transmitted to other cats through penetrating bite wounds.  Cats with FIV can live long, happy, and healthy lives.

Phoenix is approximately seven years old.  He has already been neutered and is up-to-date on his vaccinations.

You can meet Phoenix at MaxFund, located at 720 W. 10th Avenue in Denver, CO.  You can also learn more about this handsome black panther by calling the shelter at 303-595-4917.

Raja Seeks His Forever Home

Raja

Angels with Paws
Denver, CO

Raja is a handsome orange tabby domestic shorthair mancat waiting for his forever home.  He has a couple of white patches around his face and tummy - isn't he adorable?

Raja was adopted as a kitten and was recently returned to the shelter after spending four years in his former home.  He is a bit shy and will need time to adjust to a new home.  Once he gets to know you a little, he enjoys being pet.  He also likes to play, especially with catnip toys.

Angels with Paws reports that he is tolerating his feline roommates as long as they don't bother him or try to dominate him.  Because he is shy, he needs a quiet home.  The shelter believes he would do okay with older, calm, cat-friendly children.

Please visit Raja at Angels with Paws, located at 2540 Youngfield St. in Lakewood, CO.  You can also call the shelter at 303-274-2264 for more information about him.

Murphy O'Malley Wants a New Snuggle Buddy: Opt to Adopt

Murphy O'Malley

Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue
Denver, CO

Murphy O'Malley is an adorable orange mancat waiting for his forever home at Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue.  Murphy found his way to the shelter from Rock Mountain Feline Rescue's partner shelter in Pampa, Texas!  He is a loving and snuggly mancat.  He loves to lounge around, but he also enjoys chasing feather toys.

A Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue volunteer and Murphy's good friend, Cathy, says that he is a gentle boy who will follow you around seeking attention.  She also says that he seems like a very laid back kind of cat, and that she has never seen him get into any kind of altercation with the other kitties in John's Room at the shelter.

Doesn't Murphy look like a kitty you'd like to snuggle with?

The shelter says that Murphy isn't a big fan of other kitties, but he would probably be fine with a mellow, laod back, and respectful cat in the home.  Murphy is FIV+, but please do not let that stop you from giving this wonderful boy a home.  FIV cannot be transmitted to humans or dogs and is only transmitted to other cats through penetrating bite wounds.  FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives.

Murphy is already neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, and litter box trained.  You can meet Murphy at Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue, located at 2390 S. Delaware St. in Denver, CO.  You can also get more information about him by calling the shelter at 303-744-6076.

Tigger Seeks a Forever Home: Opt to Adopt

Before we get to our Opt to Adopt for the day, Carmine and Milita are going to visit the vet later.  Carmine is getting his weight checked, and I am bringing Lita along because I want to get an estimate on a dental cleaning for her and discuss my concerns with the vet regarding her asthma and anesthesia.  I'm hoping we can get Lita all squared away to have a cleaning within the next couple of weeks.  I'm sure Lita will be complaining sharing about the trip tomorrow with all of you.

Tigger

Angels with Paws
Lakewood, CO

Tigger is a handsome orange tabby mancat looking for a forever home.  Isn't his crinkled ear adorable?!

Angels with Paws rescued this sweet boy from being put down at another shelter.  Tigger is a big handsome guy who loves attention and to be pet.  He is friendly and likes to give kisses and little love nibbles (don't worry, they don't hurt).

Tigger is approximately nine years old.  He is front declawed (he was declawed before coming to the shelter).  He would prefer to be the only kitty in the home, but he is getting along with his docile feline roommate at the shelter - they leave each other alone.  He would probably be fine with older children, but the shelter isn't sure how he would react in a home with a dog.

Tigger is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, and litter box trained.  Please visit this sweet mancat at Angels with Paws, located at 2540 Youngfield St. in Lakewood, CO.  You can also get more information about Tigger by calling the shelter at 303-274-2264.

Opt to Adopt on World Spay Day

Fox

MaxFund
Denver, CO

Fox is a handsome flame-point Siamese waiting for his forever human at MaxFund.  He loves to be pet and gets along well with other cats, kids, and dogs.  He has a cute squeaky mew, too!

Fox was brought to MaxFund in 2015 as a stray.  The shelter estimates he was born in 2010.  He had to have most of his teeth removed because they were bad.  He does fine without them, but he is a little more drool-y than other kitties, especially when he gets a lot of attention or hears a can open.  He is also FIV positive.  FIV cannot be transferred to dogs or humans and is only transferred to other cats through penetrating bite wounds.  FIV+ cats can live happy, healthy lives, so please do not let this dissuade you from meeting this sweet boy.

You can meet Fox at MaxFund, located at 720 W. 10th Avenue in Denver, CO.  You can call the shelter at 303-595-4917 to get more information about him as well.

******

Unfortunately there are far too many cats and dogs waiting for forever homes in shelters today.  According to World Spay Day.org, an estimated 2.4 million healthy and treatable cats and dogs are euthanized each year in U.S. shelters.  That's an astounding number, and it makes me so sad that so many wonderful companions are being unnecessarily euthanized.

Spaying and neutering cats and dogs helps reduce pet overpopulation and saves lives.  Not only that, but spaying and neutering has health benefits as well.  Spaying female cats reduces their risk of developing uterine, ovarian, and breast cancer, especially when it is done before their first heat.  Neutering male cats eliminates the chance they will get testicular cancer and reduces the likelihood that they will develop prostate disease.

There are numerous clinics that offer low-cost or even free spay and neuter surgeries.  You can find one in your area by searching the ASPCA database or visiting Love that Cat.

Jettson Seeks a Forever Home: Opt to Adopt

Jettson

MaxFund
Denver, CO

Jettson is a handsome and sweet mancat looking for his forever home.  His profile claims he is a "brown tabby," but he looks like a gray tabby to me.  In either case, he's a cute guy!

Jettson loves to be paid attention to and be pet.  He will even headbutt you if you get close to him!  He enjoys playing with toys and is a pretty calm and laid back kind of cat.  He seems to get along with other cats fine, but he isn't too fond of dogs.

Jettson is a senior mancat with lots of love to give his forever human.  He is up-to-date on his vaccinations, neutered, and litter box trained.

You can visit Jettson at MaxFund, located at 720 W. 10th Avenue in Denver, CO.  You can also find out more about Jettson by calling the shelter at 303-595-4917.

Brody Hopes the Third Time's the Charm: Opt to Adopt

Brody

Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue
Denver, CO

Brody is a handsome brown tabby mancat seeking his forever home.  Brody's story began when a nice veterinarian found him in a mobile spay/neuter clinic.  Even though he was tame, Brody was living with a feral community.  The vet took him to Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue where he lived for years before being adopted with another cat named Timber.

You'd think he'd found his forever home and lived happily ever after, but that's not what happened.  A few months after Brody and Timber were adopted, someone noticed that Timber was living with a feral community.  They contacted Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue who contacted the adopter to find out what was going on.  The adopter claimed that a friend had accidentally let Timber out a few weeks ago.  However, the person who had contacted the shelter told them she'd been feeding Timber for a couple of months.  When the shelter inquired about Brody, the adopter hung up on them.

Eventually the adopter moved into an apartment where cats weren't allowed.  The landlord discovered Brody and took him to Denver Animal Sehlter who returned him to Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue.

Poor Brody is a little nervous right now at the shelter, understandably so.  He enjoys being pet behind his ears.  When he's in the mood, he also enjoys a nice game of chase with the laser pointer.

Brody is FIV positive.  FIV can only be transmitted to other cats through penetrating bite wounds.  It cannot be transmitted to humans, dogs, or other animals.  Brody is approximately nine years old.  He is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccinations, and microchipped.  He gets along with other cats well.

You can find this sweet, handsome mancat in John's Room at Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue, located at 2390 S. Delaware St. in Denver, CO.  You can also get more information about Brody by calling the shelter at 303-744-6076.

Braveheart Seeks His Forever Home

Braveheart

Angels with Paws
Denver, CO

A flame-point Siamese mix seeking his forever home.

Braveheart is a handsome flame-point Siamese mix currently available at Angels with Paws for adoption.  Braveheart is a friendly and sweet mancat who loves attention and to be pet.

Angels with Paws rescued him from a shelter where he was scheduled to be euthanized.  Braveheart is approximately nine years old and has special needs.  He has a chronic eye condition that he needs eye drops for daily.  He tolerates his eye drops very well.

The shelter isn't sure about how he might get along with cats or dogs, but they think he may be okay with other pets in the home if he is properly introduced to them.  They also don't know how he gets along with children, but they believe that he may be okay with older cat-friendly kids.

If you are interested in learning more about Braveheart, you can visit him at Angels with Paws, located at 2540 Youngfield St. in Denver, CO.  You can also learn more about him by calling the shelter at 303-274-2264.

Handsome Punkin Seeks His Forever Home: Opt to Adopt

Punkin

Angels with Paws
Denver, CO

I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet and handsome orange baby last week while visiting the shelter!  Punkin loves to talk, so if you like having conversations with your cat and hearing all about his day, Punkin may be the right kitty for you!

Punkin is a sweet mancat who likes affection.  He can become overstimulated easily, though, and can get a little defensive.  Some regular interactive playtime may help him get some of his extra energy out in a productive way.

Brooklyn Wants to be Your New Companion: Opt to Adopt

Brooklyn

Community Cats of Colorado
Denver, CO

Brooklyn is a 10-month-old orange kitten who would love to find a special human to share her life with.  She was found in a barn living with some other cats.  She has a tipped ear because the rescue wasn't sure if she would be a sociable cat or if she was feral when they brought her in for her spay surgery.

Brooklyn really loves attention and to be pet.  She also loves interactive play sessions.  She gets along really well with other cats and would do fine in a home with other kitties.

Sweet Brooklyn is a special needs kitten.  She has some neurological damage and weakness in her rear legs.  She is unable to use a litter box.  She also has a difficult time jumping up onto things.  She can walk and play without difficulty, though.

She has already been spayed, received her distemper and rabies vaccinations, and tested negative for FeLV.  There is no adoption fee for this beautiful girl for a qualified adopter.  If you're interested in meeting this adorable baby, please head over to the Community Cats of Colorado website and fill out an adoption application.  Once you're approved, you'll be able to meet Brooklyn and see if she is the right fit for you!
