I know it's supposed to be Wordless Wednesday, but I didn't think anyone wanted to wait for an update about Jewel, so it's going to be a Wordy Wednesday, instead.
We ALL went to the vet, so I'll update you on the kitties in the order they were seen.
First up was Milita. She weighs 12 pounds 5.5 ounces. Surprisingly, the vet said she only needs to lose a half pound to not be overweight! :) We've been putting her food up on the cat tree, and recently I got her a Neko fly, which she cannot resist. It's providing good exercise for her. I'll try to post pictures or a video of her playing with it soon. It's adorable.
The vet said she may need her teeth cleaned in six months, but other than that, she is healthy. She got her vaccines, and then a very grumpy kitty went back into her PTU.
Next, it was Jewel's turn. If you haven't been reading Facebook, Jewel has been having problems with her right back leg for a few days. She was limping on it and the leg felt floppy to me - it didn't have the tension her other back leg does. When I moved her, she seemed to be in pain, and she couldn't make it from one place to another without sitting or laying down between.
Jewel weighed in at 9 pounds 3 ounces - which is UP from her last weigh in! This is pretty rare for CRF cats, says our vet, so I am quite happy. Jewel really loves the new Royal Canin s/o kibbles Carmine is prescribed.
They took her blood for her kidney levels and to measure electrolytes, but I won't know anything about the results until later.
The vet took her back into another room to examine her leg. I could hear my little baby crying, and it was sad. They took an x-ray of her leg, and nothing's broken. The vet says she thinks Jewel has a soft tissue injury - probably from jumping off the cat tree or the bed. The Cosequin made Jewel feel so good that she was eating kibbles on the cat tree for a few days (as you can see in the photo).
We have to keep her from jumping for a week and she is on pain medication. It sounds like it should heal, which is good. I just feel bad for her being in pain.
Carmine was last. Boy was the vet glad to see him after Lita and Jewel! Lita and Jewel aren't exactly the easiest patients to have, but Carmine is so cooperative. He's like a little rag doll.
Carmine weighed in at 9 pound 0.5 ounces. So he's up one ounce :) We want him to get to at least 9 pounds, 6 ounces, so he has a little ways to go still. The Cyproheptadine seems to be helping his appetite. He got his vaccines and his B12 injection.
The vet is lowering Carmine's prednisone to one-half tablet in the morning and one-half tablet at night to see how he does on that. He goes back in two weeks for another B12 injection and weigh in.
I'll update about Jewel's test results when I know what they are.
Thank you all so much for taking this journey with us. Having special needs kitties is so very wonderful, but it does come with challenges, too. I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world, though. I love my babies SOOO MUCH!
Thank you all for the purrs, prayers, hugs, love, encouragement, etc. We appreciate your friendship so very much. <3 p="">

It always hurts so much when they're in pain but it sounds like you're on the right track! Purrs of healing headed your way ;)
ReplyDeletesounds like mostly good news - paws crossed for more
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very successful vet visit. Glad everyone is improving a little bit. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWe think that was a good update, though can imagine the "fun" it was for everyone to be taken at one time. Ha.
ReplyDeletePurrs!
purrs for them all, and may the test results all come back for the positive.
ReplyDeletePaws crossed Jewel will mend nicely.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got some good news. We've seen your FB posts on how worried you've been about Jewel. Now you can relax and enjoy the day. :)
ReplyDeleteOverall that was a darn good update!
ReplyDeletepurrs and prayers for Jewel's leg to heal quickly. Overall, glad things going well! yah!
ReplyDeleteWe bet you are glad the vet visit is over. Three is a lot to go at one time and Mum hates taking both of us together because we sing in the car.
ReplyDeleteLuv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
oh YAY, sounds like good news!! Except for Jewel's soft tissue injury. Don't be surprised if she suddenly begins to limp again for a day after several weeks, even. Those injuries can be really hard to heal 100% - our Maxie has been fine for weeks after his, then last week one day - limping again. He's back to fine though. Just don't want you to worry. Oh and - it's easier for the vet to say "don't let her jump" than it is for you to KEEP her from jumping!!! HA!
ReplyDeletei was going to suggest cosequin! Our doctor just prescribed it to Rocky. As for the teeth cleaning, they have some green (chlorofil, I think) gel that you can get. It gets the junk off their teeth without brushing and might save you a trip to the vet and anesthesia!
ReplyDeleteHope Jewel feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteSending healing purrs xx

I would have cried too if I heard my baby crying at the v-e-t. Once I did hear Admiral and I strained to see what they were doing. It stopped. Your babies seem to be doing well but then, they have a loving mom.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that things are going well for most of your cats. I will be praying for your situation with Jewel. I would be torn to pieces too. *hugs*
ReplyDeletePrayers for all
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry Jewel got hurts, but we are also so glad it's not worse than what it is! We purr for you guys.
ReplyDeleteWe're purring for all of your kitties. It's tough to have so many in poor health at once. Stressful for them and for you, too.
ReplyDeleteYes, we're purring for all the kitties. You are doing a fantastic job with them and are to be commended for everything you do. We'll hope everyone gets a good report next time.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about Jewel's injury. I hope it heals really well soon!!

ReplyDeleteSounds like it was a pretty good vet visit. I hope Jewel's leg is soon better and the test results come back satisfactory.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Sierra.
Happy birthday to mom Sierra! :-)
ReplyDeleteSending you love and (((hugs))))
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that everyone is doing well overall. Hope Jewel's leg gets to feeling better. It's so hard not to worry and hurt along with your pet, so we understand. But hopefully the week of rest will help her out.
ReplyDeleteJewel looked very much alike with my cat Coochie. They could be related! :) Poor Jewel. Don't you worry, she'll heal in time. My Coochie even had it worse than her before but she healed herself, and of course with my motherly care too. She had a nasty single hole-like wound on her head near her ear from the fight she had with our Dog. I didn't know what happened I bet Hershey(our dog) didn't mean to hurt her too, you know how strong dogs are and their lack of consciousness of their strength. So, their fight ended up with Coochie having a bitten mark we didn't even went to the hospital I just aided her wound with clean water and patched it with a cotton bud dipped in Betadine solution. She didn't it for the whole week but she was amazing to brave through her wound. It was a long time ago now there's not a trace of scar on her head.
