Maxie - Over the Rainbow Bridge

Today we have a special tribute post.  You all know my policy - I don't usually do memorial posts for individual cats.  The exception is when a friend's kitty goes to the Rainbow Bridge and doesn't have a blog or social media presence.  Every kitty deserves to be remembered.

All photos used with permission.

I've been penpals with Rachel for years now, and I consider her to be a very dear friend of mine.  She loves kitties as much as we all do, and she's an awesome cat mom!  It really saddened me when I heard that her cat, Maxie, was not doing well.  The vet thought she might have cancer or heart disease and feared she would only be with Rachel for a few more days.

Amazingly, Maxie made it for 32 days!  She really loved Rachel as much as Rachel loved her.  Theirs is a truly heartwarming story.

Maxie was born in 2005.  Sadly, her first family abused and neglected her.  They had her declawed and put her outside to fend for herself in the winter.

Maxie showed up in my friend, Rachel's, backyard one day in 2007.  If you ask me, Maxie knew where to find the perfect human mom to love and care for her!

When Maxie showed up at Rachel's, she was skinny, starving, her fur was matted, and her fur was even discolored from malnutrition.

It took Maxie a while to trust Rachel, but eventually, Rachel was able to bring Maxie indoors.  Rachel says that Maxie became her best friend.

Maxie loved milk, cheese, and crunchy kitty treats, especially the kind with cheese in them!  It sounds like Maxie would have gotten along well with Jewel!  Maybe they're enjoying some cheese at the Rainbow Bridge right now.

Maxie liked her catnip mice and ribbon.  She loved to go outside in her harness and smell the flowers (I bet there are lots of flowers at the Bridge for her to enjoy).

She loved to cuddle with Rachel; she could spend hours in Rachel's lap at one time.  Rachel says that Maxie was her, "furry shadow."

Rachel thinks Maxie may have been part Ragdoll because whenever she picked her up, Maxie went limp.  Maxie was a very sweet and gentle (and beautiful!) kitty.

Maxie and Rachel were very lucky to have found each other (though I don't believe it was any coincidence).  I'm so glad that they were able to spend some happy and loving years together, but I wish so much that they had had more time together.
