 Many of you know that I'm working on self-publishing an anthology entitled Purrseverance. I am nearly ready to format the manuscript and submit it to my packager. When Self-Publish a Book in 10 Steps by Hank Quense was offered to me for review, I jumped at the chance.

My Review

This is a great comprehensive book on self-publishing. It covers everything you need to know on what you need to do from the time you're done writing your book to self-publication to marketing your book. Most book do not cover both self-publishing and marketing tasks, so this is a great resource for authors who want to self-publish.

Some of the topics covered in this book include:

• Finding beta readers and how to get the most out of using them.
• Finding and hiring reputable book cover artists and editors.
• How to write good book blurbs and descriptions.
• Finding a reputable book packager. 
• Copyright.
• Setting up your author page on various sites, such as Amazon and Goodreads.
• Marketing tasks you should do before and after you self-publish your book.
• Finding book reviewers and tips for getting the most out of them.

Quense has self-published a lot of books, and his experience informs this book. He offers a wealth of resources for authors who wish to self-publish. I found the marketing resources the most helpful because I'd already decided on my packager. I took a lot of notes on the marketing resources available to self-published writers, and he suggests many marketing avenues I hadn't even thought of. 

I would highly recommend Self-Publish a Book in 10 Steps to any author who is interested in self-publishing or to any author who has already self-published and needs marketing ideas and resources.

Hank Quense has self-published his books for over 12 years. His non-fiction books cover fiction writing (Creating Stories), self-publishing (How to Self-publish and Market a Book, Self-publish a Book in 10 Steps), marketing (Book Marketing Fundamentals) and author business (Business Basics for Authors).
