What Did We Think?

Most cats don't like water, so giving them a bath can be incredibly difficult.  I've given Lita one real bath with shampoo and water - when she was young - and it wasn't a pleasant experience for either of us.  When Angel Jewel had chronic renal failure, her fur got greasy.  I tried some waterless shampoo on her to help her stay clean, and it worked well, so I thought that this might also be a good option for keeping the lactulose from forming clumps in Lita's fur.

Did you know that your cat needs to drink one ounce of water for every pound she weighs?  For instance, Carmine weighs 10 pounds.  That means he needs to drink 10 ounces of water each day in order to stay sufficiently hydrated.

When your cat doesn't drink enough water, he can become dehydrated.

How do You Know When Your Cat is Dehydrated?

There are several warning signs that your cat may be dehydrated, including:

• Dry and sticky gums.
• Lack of energy.
• Excessive, ongoing panting.
• Vomiting and diarrhea.
• Loss of appetite.
• Loss of skin elasticity - when the skin is pulled away or moved, it doesn't snap back to its original position.

When you have a cat with chronic pancreatitis, mealtime can become quite a challenge!  Sometimes I put what I call, "incentive," on Carmine's food to entice him to eat more.  These, "incentives," include baby food, appetizers, and pouches of cat food toppers.  So when I saw that Chewy was offering Blue Buffalo Wilderness Tasty Toppers as an option for review this month, I was excited to see if Carmine would find this, "incentive," a tasty one!

To be honest, I wasn't sure if Carmine and Milita would use the litter.  They've tried other alternative litters before and refused to use them.  To my surprise, they are using the Weruva Cat Litter and seem to like it; they've given it their paw of approval.

Weruva suggests that you put 2-4 inches of litter into the box for your cat.  I always put plenty of litter in Carmine and Milita's box because Carmine likes to dig and dig and dig and....well, you get the idea.  Weruva Cat Litter's larger granules make it more difficult for Carmine to sling litter all over the bathroom.  Additionally, neither cat tracks the litter as much as they do with other litters.  

Weruva's Cat Litter clumps well and does a great job of controlling odor.  All I smell when I scoop the litter is the litter's green tea aroma, which I love.  

Sustainability and stewardship of the earth's resources is important to Weruva.  The Hinoki wood they use in their litter is a salvaged by-product from other industries, including the construction and piano industries.  Additionally, a new tree is planted for every tree that is used.

Imperial Cat Cat 'n Around Cupcake Catnip Toy Review

Carmine really loves his Imperial Cat cat scratcher, so we were excited for the opportunity to try out an Imperial Cat Cat 'n Around catnip toy.

The Cat 'n Around cupcake is made of soft fabric and has a velcro enclosure on the back.  The refillable toy comes with a packet of certified organic catnip.  The velcro enclosure is easy to open and close, but the hole it makes when it's open is pretty small, making the catnip a little difficult to get in there, especially if your fingers are really small.

Once I got some catnip into the toy, I showed it to Carmine.  He was quite happy with the toy and immediately started playing with it and rubbing his face all over it.

Lita checked the cupcake out, too.  She didn't take to it immediately the way Carmine did.  But to be fair, Carmine was kind of hogging it...

The next morning, I heard Lita rolling around in the kitchen and found her having a good time with the cupcake toy!

Both cats like the toy and give it four paws up!

I would love to see real meat added to these treats, but I figured a treat that can help my kitties' teeth is worth trying.  So what did Carmine and Milita think about the treats?

Carmine comes running from wherever he is anytime he hears a Pro Plan treat bag rattle, so it wasn't hard to get his attention!  Carmine really loves these treats!  And do you know what the best thing is?  He actually chews them!  Carmine has a habit of not chewing his kibble or treats.  Instead, he usually just swallows them whole.  A lot of treats are small, which is great for cats, but it also allows them to swallow the treats whole if they choose to, like Carmine does.  The Pro Plan dental treats are too big for Carmine to swallow them whole, so he chews them up every time.  Finally, a dental treat that will actually help his teeth because he chews it up!

It's hardly any surprise that Carmine liked the treats - he is very picky about his food, but he loves just about any kind of treat.  The real test is whether the treat critic in the house - Milita - liked them.

Milita also likes the treats!  She's not quite as enthusiastic about them as Carmine is, but she definitely gave these treats her paw of approval!  

I will definitely be purchasing more of these dental treats when our current bag is gone.

CatLadyBox Review

All the way back in November, I received a CatLadyBox to review.  I got a little behind during the holidays, and that's why I'm only getting to it now.

What is CatLadyBox?

There are lots of subscription boxes for cats and dogs, but CatLadyBox is the first subscription box for cat ladies themselves!  Each month, you receive a box of awesome cat-themed items, which can include jewelry, mugs, T-shirts, office or home decor, art, books, accessories, and limited-edition items.  

CatLadyBox's mission is to change the "crazy cat lady" stereotype.  Cat ladies are beautiful, compassionate, intelligent, fun, and successful women.  With CatLadyBox's unique cat-themed items, cat ladies can show the world how awesome being a cat parent is.

I was so excited when I received my CatLadyBox in the mail!  I love getting surprises, and knowing that this box contained cat-themed surprises was even better.  Of course Carmine had to give it his paw of approval before he allowed me to open it.

Cats Are My Bag Tote by Xenotes: This black canvas tote bag features the words, "Cats are my Bag," in gold sparkly letters.  Each bag is screen-printed in Philadelphia at Xenotes.  I use my tote all the time - I take it with me nearly every time I go out!  

I received the Crazy CatLadyBox, so my box contained two additional items for my kitties!

We know Mondays are usually the day we give an update about ourselves.  Lita had to go to the vet on Friday for a possible UTI, but they won't have her blood and urine test results back until today or tomorrow, so we will give you an update later this week.

Carmine and Milita seem to agree that the treats taste good.  They both licked the treats a lot.  However, they seemed to have a little trouble eating them.  I noticed the treats are harder in texture than the treats they normally eat, so this may have been the problem.

Nevertheless, they both do occasionally manage to eat them.  I haven't tried them out before a vet visit, but I plan to in the future.
