Mancat Monday with an Update on Jewel

Hi everybody, Carmine here.

First, me wants to apologize for the Mom.  Hers has not been helping us visit our friends much lately.  We miss you all and hope to get around to see you all very soons!

This is an old picture of me because me would not let the Mom take any new ones today.

Me knows some of you already read the update about Jewel on the Mom's Facebook, so me apologizes that this is a repeat for some of yous.  We wanted to make sure all of our readers know what is going on.

Jewel went to the stabby place on Thursday.  Hers had to actually see the vet because hers had lost so much weight the week before.

The vet weighed hers, and hers lost 2.5 more ounces.  Jewel is now at 9 pounds, 1 ounce.  The Mom is nervous because hers wants Jewel to stay over 9 pounds, at least.

The vet took Jewel back to another room to give hers hers Adequan injection and to check hers blood pressure, the Mom says.  The Mom thinks the Adequan is finally helping some.  Jewel seems to be more social these days; hers doesn't always hide in the cube anymore.  Sometimes hers lays in my pink bed instead!

This is an old picture of Jewel, too.

The Mom says the vet told hers Jewel's blood pressure is still too high.  So now Jewel has to get one-half an Amlodipine in the morning and one quarter at night - hers was getting one quarter twice a day befores.  Poor Jewel.....me sure glad me no has to get all those pills!!

The Mom says Jewel can see me and Lita again because hers eyes are all better - hers retinas are 100% attached again!

Please purr and pray for our Jewel.  We needs hers blood pressure to get under control.  The high blood pressure is causing (more) damage to hers kidneys.

We hope you all have a wonderful Monday!

Thankful Thursday with Jewel

Thank you, everyone, who wished Jewel a Happy Birthday here and on Facebook.  We appreciate and love all of our great friends!  We thought you might like to see some of Jewel's birthday pictures.  We are so thankful that she's still fighting and has decided to stay with us for as long as she has.

We made a strawberry cake for Jewel's special day.

Jewel: A prezzie for me?

Carmine: Hey Jewel! What's in the bag?

It's a Yeoww! catnip fish!

Carmine: Time for the humans to eat cake and us to eat ice cream now?

Jewel: Mmmm.....ice cream....

Happy Birthday, Jewel!

We are skipping Opt to Adopt today due to a very, very special event.  But please don't forget that June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month and Cat Care Society has many wonderful kitties looking for homes!  You can see all the adoptable kitties here.  We'll be back with Opt to Adopt next week.

Today is Jewel's 16th Birthday!!!!

I have to be honest - when Jewel was first diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) in November, 2012, I didn't think she would live to see her 15th birthday, let alone her 16th.  She is one heck of a strong kitty with such a love soul.

We have some of Jewel's favorite things to celebrate.  Everyone is welcome to help themselves to whatever they like. :)

Hot dogs.  Don't worry, we won't make you eat any mustard or bread, but they are there if the humans want them.

And shrimp.

And please don't leave without a piece of catnip cake!

We've got lots of toys you can play with, and if you get sleepy, we have lots of comfy spots, beds, and cubes you can nap in.  The Mom will even sit on the floor for a kitty who wants the couch or her chair!  So, feel free to stay as long as you like and help sweet Jewel celebrate her special day!

Happy Birthday, Jewel!!

Jewel Update

I took Jewel in for her second Adequan injection on Wednesday.  After her first injection, she was still obviously in a lot of pain, spending most of her time in her cubes and not even coming out to eat sometimes.

The vet and I had talked about Jewel being on pain medication while the Adequan built up in her system, so that's what I decided to do for her.  It hurts me to see her in pain.  She's on Bupenorphine now to relieve pain.

Unfortunately Jewel lost six ounces in one week's time.  I could tell she was lighter, but I was surprised she lost so much in so little time.  Because she's lost so much weight, we decided she should see the vet next week when she goes in for her injection.  I'm going to put a bowl of kibbles by her favorite cube so she doesn't have to walk to any of the bowls.  I thought this might encourage her to eat more.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to encourage Jewel to eat more?  Please continue to purr and pray for my sweet fur baby.

International Box Day

Hi everyone, Carmine here.

Today is International Box Day, and I cannot begin to tell you how much mes LOVES boxes!!

Graphic created by Ann of Zoolatry.

Me sat on this box on Christmas while the Mom helped mes open all my wonderful prezzies!

Before the Mom unpacked it, mes used to sit on this box by hers computer desk.

But *this* is my favorite box!  Me will not allow the Mom to unpack or move it - ever.

Jewel also likes boxes - the soft, comfy kind!

We think Lita is a little strange cause hers no likes to lay in the squishy boxes nor does hers sit on top of regular boxes!  Can you believe hers no likes boxes?!

Black Panther Cairo Seeks Her Forever Home: Opt to Adopt

Cairo

Cat Care Society, Lakewood, CO

Cairo is a beautiful black domestic shorthair.  Cairo came to the shelter when her person passed away.  She misses her person, but she's looking forward to making a great kitty companion for someone new.  Cairo enjoys being pet and brushed, and sometimes she'll even take a nap in your lap, if it's her idea.  She also likes to pounce on toys being dragged along the floor.

Cairo is a very sweet senior cat; she's approximately 13 and a half years old.  She is in the Perpet-U-Care program, which will cover a portion of her healthcare for the rest of her life.

Cairo is spayed, up-to-date on her vaccinations, and litterbox trained.  She would love a nice quiet home.  You can find this beautiful, sweet kitty in the upstairs hallway at Cat Care Society, located at 5787 W. 6th Avenue in Lakewood, CO.

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month!  You can adopt any adult cat aged 6 months to 9 years for $45 and any pair of adult cats for $75 this month.

Mancat Monday

Carmine: The other day, I heard the Mom reading something.  As is mes nature, me went to see what hers was doing.  Hers was running hers fingers over a blank paper.  Me thought hers isn't doing anything important, so me jumped up on the bed and laid down on the blank paper.

Then me thought "This is strange."  The paper had little grains of litter all over it!  Me wondered how the Mom was "reading" litter.

The Mom told me people who can't see learn to read Braille.  Hers said all the litter dots on the paper were Braille dots that made letters and words and numbers.  The Mom said hers taught herself to read Braille in high school because all hers friends read it and hers wanted to be able to type them notes and read their notes to hers.

The Mom says hers is slow at reading it, but it is useful.

The Mom says you and your humans can see the Braille alphabet and numbers here.

By the way, today is our dear friend Wally's 11th Birthday!  You can wish hims a Happy Birthday at his blog, The Island Cats.  Today is also our wonderful friends Hannah and Lucy's birthday.  You can wish her a Happy Birthday over at Hannah and Lucy.

Happy Birthday, Wally, Hannah, and Lucy!

Fetch ID Review

Fetch ID has developed a new way for lost pets to be reunited with their owners.  So when we got the opportunity to review the service, we were thrilled!

Typically, when veterinarians or shelters find a lost pet, they must call an 800-number, wait on hold, present the company with the pet's microchip number, and wait while the company searches for the owner's contact information.  With Fetch ID, veterinarians and shelters can access an owner's contact information directly through a simple Google search of the pet's microchip number, which can even be done on a mobile device.  Veterinarians and shelters do not need a Fetch ID account to search for an owner's information.

Fetch ID works with ALL microchip brands, even if you've registered your pet's microchip with another company.

Image used with Fetch ID's permission.

Fetch ID also includes these services when you register your pet:

  • Lost Pet Alerts: When you report your pet as missing, you can easily send out a lost pet alert to all the veterinarians and shelters in your area.
  • Lost Pet Poster: You can create and print lost pet posters to put up in your neighborhood.  The posters will include your pet's microchip number.
  • Travel Assistance: If your furry friend travels over 500 miles away from home, Fetch ID will cover up to $500 to fly your pet home.
Unline other companies, Fetch ID not only gives veterinarians and shelters your phone number, they give your e-mail address as well.  This makes it easier for vets and shelters to contact you if your pet is found.  Additionally, you can easily add a secondary contact's phone number and e-mail to your profile.

Registration is very simple and quick.  The one-time fee of $9.99 covers your pet for life; there are no annual fees.  Once you've registered a pet, you can easily register other pets in your home by clicking the "Register New Pet" tab in your profile section.

In each pet's profile you can include: your phone number and e-mail, a secondary contact's phone number and e-mail, your pet's name, and a photo of him or her.  To see what a vet or shelter sees when they search a lost pet's microchip number, enter 900108000941405 into Google.

I really love the idea of veterinarians and shelters being able to search for lost pets more easily.  The one thing I hope Fetch ID will add in the future is a section on the pet's profile to list any special needs, medical conditions, or medications a pet takes.  This is really important information for a veterinarian or a shelter to know while they try to locate a pet owner.

Overall, I believe Fetch ID has a great concept, and I hope that this new service will allow more pets to be reunited with their humans.

You can register for Fetch ID on the company's website.  You can also connect with them on Facebook and Twitter

Thank you, Fetch ID, for the opportunity to review your service!

Disclaimer: I received two free pet registrations from Pet ID in order to review their website.  This did not affect my opinion in any way.  All thoughts and opinions expressed are 100% my own.

Beautiful Brietta Seeks Her Forever Home

Brietta

Cat Care Society, Lakewood, CO

This beautiful House Panther is Brietta.  She's a very sweet, affectionate ladycat.  It may take her a little time to warm up to you, but once she does, she loves being held and will even sit in your lap.  Brietta was a stray kitty before she came to the shelter.

Brietta has special needs, but I'm not totally sure what those are.  I know she has arthritis, but she is still able to get around quite well.  She is approximately 13 years old, and she's on the Perpet-U-Care program, which will pay for a portion of her medical care for the rest of her life.  Brietta is spayed and up-to-date on her vaccinations.

You can find beautiful Brietta in the upstairs hallway at Cat Care Society.  She hopes to show you what a wonderful companion she can be for you!

Cat Care Society is located at 5787 W. 6th Avenue in Lakewood, CO.

Remember, June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month!  Cat Care is discounting their adoption fees for all adult cats aged 6 months through 9 years.  You can adopt a single adult cat for $45 or a pair of adult cats for $75.

Meezer Colors Day

Today is Meezer Colors Day where all the kitties in the CB get to show off their beautiful colors!

Here's Jewel.  She's a very uniquely colored cat.  She's gray - and orange!  It's hard to tell in photos, but she has orange underneath the gray coloring.  She has dark gray stripes throughout her fur.  She won't allow me to take a photo of her tummy, but her tummy is very light in color.  She has beautiful, big, green eyes.  We think she might have some Egyptian Mau in her.

Carmine's a handsome orange tabby cat.  I tell him he is wearing stripey orange pajamas :)  His eyes are greenish.  I think he enjoys being an orange kitty; they seem to have the craziest personalities!

Lita has beautiful markings.  She's a lynx-point Siamese mix.  She's all gray with dark gray stripes on her body and her legs.  Her tail and ear are dark gray, and her tail has light gray stripes in it as well.  Her eyes are the classic Siamese blue.

We hope you have all enjoyed seeing our colors!

Easy Like Sunday with Milita

Milita: Sometimes I like to nap in my stinky goodness eating spot on the tree and wait for the humans to feed me.

You are all welcome to come over and wait on my tree for stinky goodness, too.  We has a variety of stinkies since the Mom is always trying to get Jewel to eat.  I don't know why hers doesn't like to nom much; stinky goodness is the best!  I always tell the Mom I'll take her leftovers, but she usually saves it for Jewel for later.  Rats!

We hope you all have a great easy Sunday!

Pet Naturals Hip and Joint for Cats Review and Special Offer

When Pet Naturals contacted us and asked if we'd like to review their Hip and Joint treats, we were thrilled, and of course we said yes!

About the Treats

Pet Naturals Hip and Joint treats for cats contain high-quality all natural ingredients, which include:

  • Glucosamine HCl: Glucosamine is a natural anti-inflammatory and helps form and repair tissues in the body, such as cartilage.  Glucosamine increases a cat's mobility by improving joint health.
  • Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM): MSM is a sulfur compound that is thought to reduce joint inflammation and pain and increase joint flexibility.
  • Chondroitin Sulfate: Chondroitin is another natural substance that further benefits your cat's joint health when it is combined with glucosamine.
  • N,N-Dimethylglycine HCl (DMG): DMG is an intermediary metabolite that increases the use of oxygen in the body's tissues.
The Results

The treats we reviewed are chicken liver flavor and come in the shape of little fish (which the Mom thinks is really cute).

Carmine: *sniff sniff* What's inside? Mom, hurry and open the bag for mes!

When I offered Carmine a treat, he happily gobbled it down.  He loves them!  He kept looking for more and more treats.

Milita was more interested in the bag than the treats.  I offered her a treat several times, but she wasn't interested.  I'm not surprised.  Milita is extremely picky about her treats.

Since Jewel hasn't been feeling well and spends most of her time in the kitty cubes these days, I brought her into the kitchen - cube and all - so she could try the treats, too.

She also loved them!

In fact, since I started feeding her the Pet Naturals Hip and Joint treats, she has been moving around a little more.  She has been getting out of her cube and socializing a little more than she was before.  I think any improvement in her pain is fantastic!

Special Offer

The generous people at Pet Naturals is offering the first 100 people that sign up with their website a FREE BAG of Hip and Joint for Cats!  Others will receive a valuable coupon to try Hip and Joint for Cats at a special first-time discount.

To get your FREE BAG of Hip and Joint for Cats, please visit the Pet Naturals website here.

I believe these treats would be great for any senior cat or any kitty who suffers with arthritis.

Thank you, Pet Naturals, for the opportunity to review your Hip and Joint treats.  We are really enjoying them!

**FTC Disclosure: I received Pet Naturals Hip and Joint for Cats to review free of charge.  This did not influence my opinions.  All opinions expressed are 100% my own.

Shy, Affectionate Uno Seeks His Forever Home: Opt to Adopt

Uno

Cat Care Society, Lakewood, CO

Uno is a domestic mediumhair, gray tabby.  He's an affectionate mancat who loves head rubs and being pet.  He's a little shy, but he warms up to you pretty quickly when you sit down with him for a bit to keep him company.  When I spent time with him, he loved the attention.

Uno is missing one of his front paws, but that doesn't stop him from getting around at all.  He's approximately 11 years young, and because of his age, he qualifies for the Perpet-U-Care program, which will pay for a portion of his medical care for the rest of his life.

Uno is up-to-date on his vaccinations and has already been neutered.  He needs a home without dogs.  Please stop by Cat Care Society and meet this sweet boy.  You can find him in the Gold room.

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month

During the month of June, Cat Care is reducing the adoption fees for all adult cats age six months through nine years.  Single adult cats can be adopted for $45, and pairs of adult cats can be adopted for $75!

Remember, the Spring the Seniors event is still going on as well.

Let's help Cat Care find lots of great homes for the awesome cats living in the shelter this month!

Mancat Monday: Carmine Update

Carmine: I love my Yeoww! banana!

Hi Kitties!

The Mom took me to the stabby place (the vet) again on Friday.  Hers took me on the bus and this thing called the Light Rail instead of how we normally go by paratransit.  Me enjoyed looking out the window and at all the people in the bus, but me was still very nervous while out.

When we got to the stabby place, the doctor weighed mes.  Everybody gotted really happy when I got on the scale.  The Mom said that I am a good boy, and the doctor said mes did a good job.  I don't know what all the excitement was about, so I'm going to let the Mom explain nows.

Mom here: We were all happy, Carmine, because your weight stayed stable!  It is a very good thing, and it means you must be feeling better :)

Carmine's weight stayed at 9 pounds, 12 ounces.  We all think this is a good, healthy weight for him, so we are trying to back off on the appetite stimulants a little.  He still needs them two or three times a week, but we are cutting his pills into eighths so he doesn't get quite so hungry, but he will want his noms.

The vet decided that we should keep Carmine on the 1/2 tab of Prednisone twice a day, and we may eventually try to taper down to a smaller dose.  At this point, we are going to try to decrease Carmine's B12 injections from every two weeks to once a month to see how he does with that.

Carmine, that means not going to the stabby place as much as you have been!

Carmine: That's the best news mes has heard in a long time!
